The E30 rides again!

After a long winter hiding in the garage the E30 318iS has emerged to see the sun for the first time since last October! It's been 3 days since it last snowed (seriously) so I declare this to be the first day of summer ;-)

Driving her was a breath of fresh air, the winter car (e36 328i touring) is a fine steed but no match in terms of handling. The E30 feels so much more connected to the road and I always finish a journey with a huge grin on my face. Even a small journey is like a few laps with Michael Schumacher.

After over six month in the garage she fired up first time after turns a few revolutions, not the slightest hesitation. A good wash a brush up soon followed.

Why can't BMW make nice cars like this anymore?

Hmm...you're making me think, which is a dangerous thing.

I've had a bit of a look around and I've seen a E30 320i for a reasonable price, in very tidy condition...

and yes, it has been a while since I've logged in. Being sans-BMW will do that :)

This is certainly the sort of weather to get a good deal on a cabrio :-) My own E30 is back in hibernation again.

If you do get one make sure it's a six cylinder, the fours had the 8 valve engine + a fair bit of extra weight so they're no fireballs. I almost went for one myself this summer, looking outside now at 20" of snow and -17C I can't think why..........

Nice thing about the cabrios (or any decent E30) is the way they hold their value. If you buy a decent one it's hard to lose money on it.

Yes, I'm only interested in the 6 cyl. I am pretty sure it'd be the same as was in my E28 520i - it was a real sweet motor, and I reckon it would have been brilliant in something a little lighter, hence my interest in an E30 320i. Mid 80's BM's are still great cars, very pure in their driving expression.
