Hi

Stumbled across the site and had to join....it's right down my street. I'm an old git who has built bikes for years and currently have three in the garage. I've driven Citroens all my life until being so fed up with my C5 I gave it away. The wife said I should buy something for fun during the summer, so I bought an E30 Baur conversion for £500 out of the local paper. The vendor said 'It's a classic, do you know much about BMW's?......I told him I just wanted a cheap car, which ensured I was disliked on the spot. I think it had been used as a boat as the boot and footwells were completely full of water. It's now completely dry and runs very well, except for the pierburg carb tickover, which will be my second post. A good friend saw the car and told me he had one in his drive that I could have for spares. The rear window had been stuck open for two years and the interior looked like he had been growing seedlings in it. I stuck a battery on it and it fired up first time...so I now have an E34 touring as well.

My first car was an '84 Cirtroen GSA Special, three years old at the time with only 23k. It needed a new starter motor, steering rack and exhaust manifolds! Good student transport though.

Baur is a nice car. And it's M10 is a great engine. But please, ditch the Pierburg. My '88 316 had one and it was junk. Get a nice Weber (http://www.jaymic.com will know which one) and you'll not only get more power but better economy too.

If you want to be really flash get a 2002ti intake manifold and fit twin Webers, should see around 120bhp that way. M10 is a wonderful engine can be tuned to fairly high power levels. You can just drop in a 2.0 block from an old 2002 if you fancy a cheap upgrade from the 1.8.

You want to make sure the car's sill and possible boot drain holes aren't gummed up.
