E30 front brake upgrade

Bigger brakes? More power? Stiffer suspension? This is place to ask.

If not, where can you get the adapter fitting like the ones shown previously that converts it? I wouldnt even know where to begin.

If you remove the inverted flare fitting then you *may* not need an adapter - because at that point the flare would be normal like the BMW lines. The problem I'm told is that it can be too deep and the solution to that is a fitting used on Volvo 740/940s with Bendix calipers. I personally just took the RX7 hardline that are installed on the calipers stock, and had a BMW mechanic buddy with the right flare tool and fitting convert one into the adapters you saw earlier - with an inverted Japanese flare on one end and BMW flare on the other.

The brakes are working perfectly by the way. I got Hawk HT10 pads all around to try on the track in a few weeks' time. Here's a quick test run after finishing the brakes and getting a 2nd muffler installed (with no cats and 2.25" dual pipes it was too loud).

Hey everyone.

I have been doing some research on these parts, and hopefully I located a cheap set of 2nd Gen FC Calipers.

FYI If you go to http://www.centricparts.com they manufacture and distribute brake components....they don't sell retail, but their system offers diagrams and full specs/measurements on all brake parts. They have great spec sheets for the VW Corrado and E30, as well as all calipers. Great refernce tool.

I also came across a Caliper Rebuild kit OEM Mazda, for $35 which is relatively cheap compared to other sites......when I go this route, I will definately be rebulding the calipers to start fresh!

Ah, that explains it :-) We bought the May issue and didn't see it, no worries though as there were a few interesting M42 bits in May's.

Thanks :-)

true that, it's very rare to find RX7 brake calipers in scrapyards, and even in some online stores, it's very hard to find one right now...

E30 front brake upgrade

Be careful with BBKs...

Make sure you get a kit that has been specifically designed for your car. Using universal kits can sometimes make your brakes worse, even though the calipers seem bigger and better. The reason behind this is the mismatching of calipers/pistons and brake master cylinder sizes.

Best upgrade for a road car is just upgrading pads, changing to braided hoses and running a decent fluid.

Only if the car is being used on the circuit should one consider fitting a properly matched Big Brake kit.

My Gti track car runs the Powerbrake PB44 calipers and race discs with Endless race pads up front...and from the little road testing that Ive done they are truly amazing. Once Ive done more on track testing I will report back.
