These binoculars have larger than normal objective lenses housed in a tough but light case. 15x60 means 15x magnification with 60mm lenses. The large objectives give good low light performance (50% more than 50mm, it's based on size squared), perfect for amateur astronomy or bird watching at dawn or dusk. Ideal for scenic observation from your house or caravan, yet small enough for your car's glove box unlike our other giant binoculars.
A 15x binocular is very powerful indeed. Our website's "How to Hold" page has some good advice for keeping them steady. They can be tripod mounted using our metal L bracket (see Accessories) but are light enough to hand hold.
Many manufacturers cut corners and make binoculars as cheaply as possible. We use BAK-4 glass, others use inferior BAK-7 and make them sub-size. Avoid anything with Ruby "night vision" lenses, they're junk and well below our minimum level of optical coating.
These binoculars have fold down rubber eye cups, perfect for spectacle wearers. Binoculars come with a padded carrying case, neck strap, cleaning cloth and lens caps.
We used to do these as a 20x60 with level II coatings but at the start of 2016 we changed to the 15x60 with level IV. It's lower power but the larger exit pupil means that you get a good deal more resolution in the image and they perform a little better in poor light. They also have a wider field of view. Overall I prefer these to the 20x60, they're a better all rounder now. Right up there in quality with our 15x70s which were BBC Sky at Night's "what to buy for Christmas" choice.
See the buyer's guide for an explanation of these terms.
